Sri Lanka runs out of fuel as government institutions and schools close to curb travel

Sri Lanka runs out of fuel as government institutions and schools close to curb travel.

Sri Lanka is running out of diesel and gasoline, while the Sri Lankan energy minister announced on June 25 that the tanker, which is expected to arrive this week and next, has been postponed.  The minister also apologized to the people for the worsening energy crisis.  Sri Lanka, which is in the throes of an economic crisis, faces a severe shortage of reserves, unable to import essential commodities, even food, fuel and medicine.  The South Asian state is appealing for international aid and is also negotiating with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to get a package of aid to meet the needs of the people.

Although last week the government shut down unnecessary government institutions and schools for two weeks to reduce travel, the country's energy crisis remains unresolved.
